From ESIWiki

Here's a list of discussion points for the session on (socio-) technical alignment. Please feel free to add to this list:

  • How can we map the e-Science ‘socio-technical’ constituency?
    • People, organisations, standards, technical artefacts and technologies
    • Who and/or what is missing and why?
    • How is it evolving and why?
  • How do people make choices about getting involved?
    • What distinguishes the decisions of early and late adopters?
    • What factors are important and how do they influence decisions?
    • How can we make sure choices are informed by the best available information about the capabilities and limitations of technologies and their likely future development?
    • How can we design generic components that can be configured to serve specific needs?
  • What is the state of the socio-technical alignment process in e-Science:
    • How do we measure progress?
    • How is the vision defined and articulated, and how does it change over time?
    • How are key actors engaged?
    • How is the wider community mobilised?
    • How important are standards and when do they come into play?
  • What are the next steps?
    • What has to be done to embed e-Science?
    • How can the relationship between national infrastructures, community infrastructures and locally provided infrastructures be managed?
    • How do we collaborate with those educating and training future generations of researchers?
