E-Research Endeavours Workshop: Tools for Collaboration

From ESIWiki

Here's a list of discussion points for the session on tools for collaboration. Please feel free to add to this list:

  • e-Researchers currently use a wide range of tools for collaboration. In most cases these are not interoperable.
  • What needs exist to provide advanced functionality such as Access Grid? For example, do we need to build pervasive systems that can be used anywhere or do we need to build 'intelligent laboratories' of some stripe?
  • How can we support people in managing the interplay between predominantly solitary activity and more collaborative ones that involve interations with others.
  • How can we support people in accounting for what is going on in a larger collaboration such as a large project or VO, do we need tools to visualise activities?
  • What kinds of investments do various tools require (direct costs, support costs), and how can these be justified?
  • e-Research and Web 2.0
