Biography: I received a PhD degree in Computer Science from Wroclaw University of Technology (WUT) in 2009 where I was a researcher at the Faculty of Computer Science and Management. I received her MSc degree in Computer Science (Specialization Information Systems) from the WUT in 2006. In the same year I received her second MSc degree in Software Engineering from the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden. In June 2009 I was appointed to a position as a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Bournemouth University (BU). Now I am a Lecturer in Informatics at the Bournemouth University. The main area of my research interest are complex systems, especially social networks and their analysis. I focused her Ph.D. thesis on the calculation of individual’s social position in the virtual social network. I am a Transfer of Knowledge Coordinator from BU site in the Computational Intelligence Platform for Evolving and Robust Predictive Systems (INFER) project (07/2010–06/2014; budget 1.55 mln EUR). INFER is a major EU-funded project involving 25 academics from organisations in three different countries. The project focuses on pervasively adaptive software systems for the development of a modular computational INtelligence software platform For Evolving and Robust predictive systems applicable in various commercial settings and industries. The main innovation of the project is a novel type of environment in which the “fittest” predictive model for whatever purpose will emerge –either autonomously or by user high-level goal-related assistance and feedback. I am one of the founder members of the ‘Social Network Group’ at WUT (SNG@WUT) created in October 2006. The research work of SNG@WUT is focused on the social networks and data mining techniques that can be applied in social network analysis. I am a leader of the research team in the research and developmental grant: “GRASP# – Groups, Relationships and Activities of Suspected Persons” (10/2009 – 10/2011) that was obtained from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The aim of the project is to investigate and analyze the social connections and characteristics of people accused and suspected of committing a crime. I was also a member of the Nature-inspired Data Technology (NiDT) focus group within the European Coordination Action project on Nature-inspired Smart Information Systems (NiSIS within EU FP6). I participated also in the project “IT SOA – Service-Oriented Architectures” (01/2009–12/2012) that is developed within the Regional Operational Programme Innovative Economy 2008-2013.
